Wayfair, an online home furnishing retailer has recently launched a virtual reality app that allows the consumers to virtually design their outdoor patio area in an immersive way as it dips the user in simulation generated by a computer. All it requires the Oculus Rift gaming headset. The app is already launched last week on the Oculus Rift Experience app store and Wayfair’s Patio Playground is among those seven apps present in the store that are not focusing gaming arena.
Consumers are given a choice of 85 products from which they can virtually design their outdoor space. The app gives the consumer a freedom to view the furniture from many different angles in fact at many different times in a single day. Consumers can also now physically move within an area, of three-foot, can also bend down to see the bottom of the desired furniture and so on many different activities.
Currently, Wayfair is only focusing on testing and getting feedbacks from consumers so as to integrate more products in their application in the coming future as they are planning to give the application an ability to sell the items within their application. Retailers have already begun to move really deeper into Virtual Reality for many solutions. Other high-end retailers like Dior and Tommy Hilfiger have already embraced the technology to boost their in-store activity.
